Located on the banks of the Brenta, in a strategic position between Treviso, Padua and Vicenza, the town of Bassano del Grappa is famous above all for the events related to the First World War. In that period, in fact, Bassano played a leading role as an outpost of war. Even its most characteristic monument, the “Old Bridge” or “Ponte degli Alpini”, built and designed by Palladio in 1569, was destroyed during the conflict, rebuilt and now it is a symbol of the city. In addition, during the Second World War, Bassano was one of the most glorious centers of Resistance organization.
Bassano is located at the feet of the Grappa’s mountain where it would be nice to go for an half day trip.
The historic center of Bassano is built around a medieval center and is full of churches, among which the ancient church of Santa Maria, old buildings, such as the Upper Castle, the original core of the city, and picturesque villages. Bassano del Grappa is located 47 km from Treviso.
